178 St. Philip Street, St. Philip Square, Peninsula
Built circa 1835 this elevated two and one story Tuscan columned home is a wonderful example of a large Charleston single house. The steep gabled roof of standing-seam copper enhances the perfectly balanced trio of dormer windows and complements the handsome window pediments along the street side and along the two story piazzas. The building is slightly recessed from the sidewalk allowing attractive landscaping on the street frontage wrapping around the front entrance and along the piazzas. The building was completely renovated in 1998 and divided into four charming apartments. It is part of our award winning St. Philip Square (see write up) restoration project. Ample off-street parking is available in our parking lot. It is located three blocks from the College of Charleston.
